Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act, Part 2

Category: General

In a previous article we talked about the tragic death of Virginia Graeme Baker and the newly implemented law that her drowning inspired. The new law requires that public pool and spa owners have drains and grates that meet the ANSI/ASME A112.19.8-2007 standard. Where can you find these drains and grates to make sure that your pool is in compliance? The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has provided owners with a list of drain cover manufacturers. Follow the link to view the full list http://www.cpsc.gov/businfo/vgb/draincman.html.

Personal pool owners are currently not held to the Virginia Graeme Baker Safety Act. However, if you are concerned about your pool or spa, CPSC recommends contacting state or local officials to find a professional inspector in your area. Currently the CPSC and the State Attorneys General are the enforcers of this act. The CPSC has provided a full document with the technical and legal breakdown of the Virginia Graeme Baker Safety Act. To view the full details please visit their site (http://www.cpsc.gov/businfo/vgb/vgpsa.pdf).
